Advancing India’s Low-Carbon Growth through Energy Efficiency Intervention in the Industrial and Buildings Sector

On May 29, 2025, the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) participated in the National Workshop on “Advancing India’s Low-Carbon Growth through Energy Efficiency Intervention in the Industrial and Buildings Sector” at Hotel Ambassador in New Delhi, India.

The workshop was jointly organised by Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), and the International Institute for Energy Conservation (IIEC) and was attended by over 100 participants.

Mr. Ashok Bonam, Regional Coordinator of the Asia Low-Carbon Buildings Transition (ALCBT) Project, joined the panel alongside Ms. Pravati Samal, Director, Bureau of Energy Efficiency (ऊर्जा दक्षता ब्यूरो); Dr. Harikumar Ramadas, Director, Energy Management Centre Kerala ; and Mr. Kanagaraj Ganesan, Director, Integrative Design Solutions. The session was moderated by Mr. Ashish Rakheja, Managing Partner, AEON Integrated Building Design Consultants LLP. The panel discussed key opportunities for advancing low-carbon buildings through policy interventions, technological innovation, and behavioural change.

“The ALCBT project is an innovative solution for enabling the low-carbon transition across five Asian countries, including India,” highlighted Mr. Bonam.

The project, supported by the International Climate Initiative (IKI), is being implemented across three states under the guidance of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Government of India. 

During the session, a renewed MoU was also exchanged between GGGI and EESL, reinforcing collaboration on energy efficiency, clean energy, and resource conservation, and strengthening the efforts under the ALCBT project.
